Bolsover Town is set to benefit from a £750K investment that will help transform the look and feel of the town centre.
We have been successful in securing £470,232 of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for improving public realm and infrastructure in Bolsover Town Centre. The funding will be matched with £100,000 High Street Innovation Funding and money from Bolsover District Council and Old Bolsover Town Council that will jointly provide £749,732 to spend on the town.
The project will run until March 2015 and the money will be used to improve Bolsover Town Centre, with projects such as:
Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Councillor Alan Tomlinson said, “These are very exciting times for the town and we are delighted to have finally received approval for this funding that will give the town centre a new look and lease of life.
“Bolsover has one thing that many other towns do not – a Castle, which has a massive appeal to people, so by working closely with English Heritage and local businesses to tap into this potential and show what else the town has to offer then we can increase the number of customers and visitors to the town.”
Specific funding has been ring fenced to deliver an events programme during this period that will help bring people into the town centre, as well as a marketing and promotion campaign, with Ruby Slippers having been appointed to deliver the Marketing and Promotional aspect of the project.
The project will be led and managed by a ‘Town Team’ which will include representatives from the District and Town Council, stakeholders and businesses and will help address any new challenges and improve the town centre and local economy going forward.
Chris Christopher, local town trader said, “I'm sure we'd all agree such an investment into the town has got to be good news!
“It would be great if we could improve the look of the town and make it more welcoming to both local residents and visitors. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction for Bolsover, encouraging people into the town, therefore supporting the local economy. This could be the stepping stone to add a new lease of life to our wonderful town!”
